3D Printing Express workshop — printer farm running engineering-grade parts overnight in Bournemouth
BOURNEMOUTH · EST. 2025 · ENGINEERING-GRADE FDM

Two engineers.
One workshop.
No middlemen.

3D Printing Express is a UK 3D printing service run by James Crisford and Freddy Blake. Two product design engineers, tired of slow lead times and opaque pricing — so we built our own.

James Crisford

Product design engineer · Bournemouth

Studied product design engineering at Bournemouth University, where he first started printing functional parts rather than ornaments. He handles client briefs, CAD work, and engineering decisions — the person you'll usually talk to when you send a brief.

His background is in designing things that actually have to work: load-bearing brackets, consumer products that go through tooling, props that survive a crowd. That informs every quote he writes — he's thinking about how to print your part, not just whether he can.

Freddy Blake

Production engineer · Newbury

Runs the production side — hardware, print settings, material selection and the Newbury workshop. If the machines are running overnight and a job's going out the next morning, Freddy's the one who made that happen without losing a layer.

He thinks in systems: print orientation, support strategy, wall thickness and layer adhesion across long runs. When a client pushes on tolerance or asks for a material we haven't printed before, Freddy runs the test before the quote goes out.

THE STORY

We started because we were the clients.

Before 3DPE, both of us worked on the client side of product development — sending files to print bureaus, waiting a week for a quote, then another week for the parts, then finding out the orientation was wrong. We knew how 3D printing was supposed to work. We just couldn't find a service that did it that way.

So in 2025 we started our own. Bournemouth first, Newbury as the second workshop. The model is simple: fast quoting (6 hours, not 6 days), honest material advice (we'll tell you when PLA is fine and when you need something stronger), and parts that are actually checked before they ship.

We're engineers, not resellers. Every job goes through one of us. That's not a marketing claim — it's just how two people running a workshop work.

"The best brief we get is a broken part in a jiffy bag. Tell us what it does, we'll figure out the rest."

HOW WE WORK

What you should expect from us

01

Quote in 6 hours, not 6 days

You get a price, a material recommendation and a turnaround — not a holding reply. If your brief arrives before 2pm, you'll have a quote before the end of the day.

02

Engineering-grade materials, honest advice

...heat, load or chemical exposure. We don't upsell materials you don't need.

03

Your file doesn't leave the building

We print everything in-house across our Bournemouth and Newbury workshops. No outsourcing, no third-party bureaus. Your CAD files and project details stay between us.

04

Two engineers review every job

James checks the design file for printability issues — wall thickness, overhangs, support strategy — before it goes to Freddy for production. Parts that need a re-orient or a split get flagged before printing, not after.
