HOW IT WORKS

Never used a 3D printing service before?

Here's the whole process · idea to parts in your hands, in 6 simple steps. Plain English, two-minute read.

Here's how the 3D Printing Express service works: you send a photo, sketch, physical part or CAD file (STEP, STL or 3MF); a real engineer reviews the brief and replies within 2 hours with material advice, a price and any printability flags; once you approve, we print on our UK in-house fleet of FDM machines, finish and pack the parts, and ship UK-wide — standard turnaround 5-10 working days, faster on request.

01

You send us what you've got

Anything works. A photo of a part you want copied. A rough sketch on paper. A spec sheet from your designer. A CAD file (STEP, STL, 3MF). Or just a description in an email. If you can describe it, we can quote it.

Your effort: ~5 minutes · just send what you have to hello@3dprintingexpress.co.uk or use the quote form.

02

A real engineer looks at your brief

Our team reads it personally. We work out what material would suit (PLA for cosmetic, PA12 for engineering, TPU for flex, etc.), what size we can print it at, and whether anything in your design might cause issues (thin walls, overhangs, tolerance traps). If we spot something, we tell you before we quote.

Our effort: usually within 2 hours.

03

We send you a quote

A clear price (broken down by material, machine time, and any post-processing), an honest lead time, and a list of any printability flags we found. No hidden fees. If you need it faster, we'll tell you which queue tier (Fast Track, Priority, Express) gets you to the deadline.

You decide: approve, ask questions, or walk away. Quoting is free.

04

We print your parts

Your job goes onto our UK fleet of multiple printers. Hardened-steel nozzles for carbon-fibre jobs, calibrated profiles per material, and quality-controlled filament across the board. If you need photo proofs mid-run, we'll send them.

Typical lead time: Standard 5-10 working days · Fast Track 3-5 · Priority 1-3 · Express same-day.

05

We finish, pack, and ship

Parts come off the bed, get inspected, and go through any agreed post-processing (vapour smoothing, paint, threaded inserts, dyeing, assembly). Then they're boxed with care and sent on Royal Mail Tracked or DPD Next Day, UK-wide. You get a tracking number the moment the box leaves the bench.

Carriers: Royal Mail Tracked or DPD Next Day · same- or next-day collection.

06

Parts arrive at your door

Open the box, inspect the parts. Most issues we'd already have caught upstream during the printability review · that's the whole point of the engineer check at step 02. If anything still doesn't match the spec we agreed, reply to the dispatch email and we'll work it out together. Honest conversation, real fix.

If something's off: reply to the dispatch email. We'll sort it.

Common questions about how our service works

You send what you have · a photo, a sketch, a physical part or a CAD file (STEP, STL, 3MF) · and a real engineer reviews it. We reply within 2 hours with the right material, a clear price and any printability flags. Once you approve, we print on our UK in-house fleet of FDM machines, finish and pack the parts, then ship UK-wide. No minimum order and no middlemen.
Standard turnaround is 5-10 working days from approval. Faster queue tiers are available when you have a deadline · Fast Track 3-5 working days, Priority 1-3, and same-day Express on suitable jobs. Quote response itself is quick: an engineer-reviewed reply typically lands within 2 hours, and parts ship on Royal Mail Tracked or DPD Next Day with a tracking number.
Whatever you have. A CAD file (STEP, STL or 3MF) is ideal, but a phone photo, a hand sketch, a dimensioned drawing or just a written description is enough to start. If you only have a sketch or a physical sample, we can engineer the CAD for you and quote that alongside the print. If you can describe it, we can quote it.
Either way. Tell us how the part will be used and a real engineer recommends the right FDM material · PLA for cosmetic models, PETG and ABS for tougher functional parts, PA12 and carbon-fibre nylons for engineering loads, TPU for flexible parts. If you already know the grade you want, we print to your spec. We flag anything that won't hold up before you commit.
